Consuming electricity only from renewable sources as well as efficiency-oriented decision making have made this huge improvement possible
In keeping with the strategy and goal of tackling climate change, and as part of Velatia’s respect for the environment – resulting in policies aimed at minimising the environmental impact of its activity –, Velatia’s CO2 emissions in 2020 were down 37% compared with 2019.
This excellent news is thanks to a strategy of using electricity only from renewable generation sources, accredited by Iberdrola and Naturgy through the corresponding certificates of guarantee of origin, as well as a consequence of the various energy efficiency operations carried out at the group’s facilities worldwide. As a result, emissions arising from the group’s activity – divided into two subgroups: scope 1 and scope 2 – have fallen from 2,715 to 2,485 tonnes for the first group and from 3,085 to 1,252 tonnes for the second group.
The company will continue to introduce measures aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency in order to reduce its environmental impact. This commitment is reflected in Velatia’s sustainability strategy and in the group’s pledge to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
