The Vice-President of Velatia explained the company’s family role at a symposium organised by ADYPE
Alejandro Ormazabal, Vice-President of Velatia, gave a speech on “the leading role of the manager in a family business” at a breakfast symposium organised by ADYPE (Euskadi Association of Directors and Professionals) last Monday 18th February.
The Vice-President of the industrial and family group, who offered his vision on the past, present and future of Velatia and its role as a family business, stressed the importance of “paying attention to managing the complexity arising from the multi-generational growth of the family”, before attendees at the Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao. Alejandro Ormazabal stressed that senior managers, “whether they are relatives or not, are key in this shared path, since it is they that lead the way in consolidated projects”. That is why “it is important that those who take up positions of responsibility are not only good professionals, but also good people,” said Ormazabal.
Responsibilities and opportunities in a professional family project
After explaining the opportunities he had seized over the course of his professional career, Alejandro Ormazabal asked senior managers in attendance to “invest in enhancing all initiatives and projects they are involved in, ensuring they are visible when promotion opportunities come about, and making sure they assume the positions of greatest responsibility and influence”. He also stated that “we now move in increasingly complex business environments, where we must learn to live with much greater uncertainty, meaning management based on trust is essential”. He stressed the significance of responsibilities and opportunities in professional family projects such as Velatia, adding that “This journey involves large degrees of autonomy and shared responsibilities, in which decisions must be based on values”.
